Message First of all, I'd like to thank member MarTTy4653(SeaTTle) for letting everyone know about the track day at Pacific Raceways. It was originally supposed to be August 1st, and I was under the impression that a lot of ZCCW members were going to be there. The dates got changed, probably due to lack of interest. August 2nd was the next available date so that's when I went. I was the only Z. In fact, the only other Nissan product in the class was an Infinity G-35. Where was everyone?? Did you all sign up for a different date? I find it interesting that I, a Canadian, was the only one who was interested in attending a Z Car Club of Washington track day.

But that's okay... I still had a BLAST! I've never driven on a track before, so I definitely learned a lot during the one-day clinic. The avoidance & braking exercises certainly made me a better driver and gave me a real feel the limits of my car and more importantly, of myself.

But of course, lapping was the best part of all. Driving at high speed in a relatively safe environment is an amazing experience, and having an instructor in the passenger seat for the day really increased my confidence and knowledge immensely. I'm still no Michael Schumacher, but I certainly know a lot more now than I did before. It was definitely worth every penny. For anyone who has never driven on a track but has wondered what it's like... DO IT. Taking a performance driving class is a great learning experience, it'll make you a better, safer driver, and most of all, it's FUN!

As I said, I was the only Z on the track that day. Other attendees included: two Porsche 911’s, Porsche Boxster, Infinity G35, VW GTI, Honda S-2000, Mini (supercharged), Mitsubishi Starion, BMW M3 (I think), Acura TSX, a Jaguar XJ-12, and of course, the school’s own Cavaliers. We really could have used a few more Nissan products out there. Other than the Infinity G35, I was the only Nissan in the class. The other lapping drivers who joined us later included a 240SX, several Mustangs, a couple of Corvettes, and one or two more BMW’s. The Lotus Elise didn't drive on the track. He just came to watch his wife drive her G35.

Okay... so if I'm going to drive all the way to another country for a track day, you guys better show up next time! ;)

-Rich
